Beginner Chinese Lesson_Syllabus

Beginner Chinese Lesson
Welcome to our class!

Chinese language  (汉语 / 漢語; Hànyǔ or 中文; Zhōngwén) is a very popular language around the world. Over one billion people speak some form of Chinese.

In this class you will learn the standardized Mandarin phonetic system (拼音; pinyin), listening and speaking skills, as well as writing Chinese characters (汉字/漢字; hànzi).

To learn more about Chinese culture, there will be a variety of activities throughout the semester, such as writing calligraphy, exchanging letters with Chinese friends, tasting Chinese food, and watching short movies.

My goal is to make learning fun and help everyone quickly develop Chinese language skills.

Attendance will be taken every day at the beginning of class.  If you are unable to make it, please let me know in advance. Remember to make an appointment during office hours and I will help you to catch up the lessons.

To help you learn, there will be homework due every week except for several exceptions. Homework needs to be turned in every Friday. Please note: it is your responsibility to make up all missed work during excused absences.

There will be a quiz at the end of each lesson. If you are absent during a quiz, please be ready to make up the quiz on the day you return to our class.

We will have two exams, one in the middle and the other in the end of the semester. If you are absent during an exam, please make an appointment during office hours and be ready to make up the exam.
